Custom Marker Styles

Autodesk Civil 3D Tips and Techniques

Sometimes you need a special symbol to replace or supplement the closed filled arrowhead at the end of a Civil 3D label leader when it is in the dragged state.  One example is with the pipe crossing label where you want to draw attention to it by using a circle at the end of the leader instead of an arrowhead.  You can create your own CUSTOM MARKER STYLE and select specific labels to apply it.

CREATE CUSTOM MARKER STYLE
  1. Navigate: Toolspace>Active Drawing Settings View>General>Multipurpose Styles>Marker Styles
  2. Select one style that you like and right click
  3. Select Edit or Copy
  4. Under Information Tab, rename it to your liking
  5. Under Marker Tab,
    1. Either "Use Custom Marker"
      1. Click on the radio buttons and turn on or off any symbol to your liking.
    2. Or "Use ACAD Block symbol"
      1. Select a block which is in the list
      2. If you need to create a special block, it will appear in the selection list after you save it in the current drawing
    3. Size Option:
      1. "Use Drawing Scale" provides the same size marker when plotted regardless of other scales.
      2. There are other size options you can play around with.
      3. Type in the size in inches.
  6. Display Tab:
    1. Select the layer you want your marker
      1. Layer 0 causes the marker to be on the same layer as the label
      2. If you want to be able to turn on and off the marker by layer control, select a special layer for it.

APPLY CUSTOM MARKER STYLE

  1. Highlight label(s) for which you wish to apply the custom marker style
  2. Under Properties, expand drop down menu Marker Style
  3. Select the Marker Style by name
