PIPE CROSSINGS
 
Civil 3D provides an error-proof way to display crossing pipes in sewer and water profiles.  The low tech alternative is to make extensive measurements, double check the location and invert calculations and hand type the labels.  First you must have all data shortcut references in the profile view drawing.
 
Instructions
  1. Create Data Shortcut
    1. In Working Storm drawing
    2. Display pipe network and associated alignments
    3. From the Top Menu
      1. Select General
      2. Select Data Shortcuts
      3. Select Edit Data Shortcuts
      4. In the panorama window
        1. Select Create Data Shortcut from Objects
        2. Click on each alignment in turn with a fresh click on the above command each time
        3. Click on one pipe in each network in turn with a fresh click on the above command each time
        4. Click on the Icon to Export to XML
        5. Name the shortcut and save it in S:/ACAD/(Project Number)/dwg/xref/working/
  2. Create Reference
    1. Open Sewer Working Drawing
    2. From the Top Menu
      1. Select General
      2. Select Data Shortcuts
      3. Select Edit Data Shortcuts
      4. In the panorama window
        1. Select Import Data Shortcut
        2. Browse to your file you created in 1 above
        3. Select and click OK
        4. Right click the alignment shortcut by name
        5. Select Create Reference
        6. The Create Alignment dialog box opens
          1. Select NO Site
          2. Select No Display for the Alignment
          3. Select No Labels
          4. Click OK
    3. Create a reference for the for the Sewer Network also
      1. Select Pipe Crossings Only Pipe Style
      2. Select No Display for the Structure Style
  3. Draw Network in Profile View
    1. Display at least one pipe from each network in plan view so you can click on it
      1. In Toolspace on Prospector tab
      2. Expand Pipe Networks
      3. Expand Networks
      4. Expand the sewer network by name
      5. Click on pipes
      6. In the tabular display below, highlight Style column of one pipe
      7. Select double lines
    2. From the top menu
      1. select Pipes
      2. Select Draw Network in Profile View
      3. Click on the plan view pipe displayed in 1 above
      4. Press Enter
      5. Click on the Profile View\
      6. Press Enter
    3. Select the profile crossing only display style for the entire network
      1. In Toolspace, Prospector Tab
      2. Expand Pipe Networks
      3. Expand Networks
      4. Expand the sewer network by name
      5. Click on pipes
      6. In the tabular display below,
      7. Right click on the Style header
      8. Select Edit
      9. Select Profile Crossings Only
      10. Select OK
    4. Edit Profile view to show only certain pipes
      1. Right click on the profile view
      2. Select Edit profile view
      3. In the Networks tab, highlight all structures of a certain network
      4. Uncheck draw box
