 Autodesk Civil 3D Tips and Techniques

Move a pipe from one structure to another (or how to move a storm pipe across the road)

  1. Highlight the pipe near the end you want to move
  2. Right click and select "Disconnect from Part"
  3. Click on the structure at that end
  4. Highlight the pipe again at the same end
  5. Right click and select "Connect to Part"
  6. Click on the structure across the road.
  7. That's it.  Repeat for the other end.

Reposition a structure with its connected pipes

  1. Click on the structure to highlight it
  2. Click on the center grip
  3. Move the structure to its new location (use snaps)
  4. Click to place structure in its new position
  5. Inverts remain the same, Rim adjusts to its associated surface and slopes and pipe length change automatically in labels and tables.

Insert new structure in an existing pipe run

  1. From Top Menu>Pipes>Edit Pipe Network
  2. Select the pipe where you want to insert the structure
  3. Pipe Network Editor Dialog box opens
  4. Select Structure type
  5. Select "Structures only"
  6. Click where you want to insert the structure
  7. Enter or Esc to close Editor
  8. Move one pipe from existing to inserted structure (see 1 above)
  9. Reopen Network Dialog box (1-3)
  10. Select pipe type and size
  11. Select "Pipes Only"
  12. Click near the beginning structure and click near the end structure
  13. Close Pipe Network Editor Dialog Box
  14. Edit pipes for properties
