Civil 3D provides many ways to display profiles called 'Profile View Style'.
Biting Tail Alignment
- One shortcoming of the profile view is when an alignment circles back onto itself like a snake biting its tail.
- In this case, the profile does not display correctly making long horizontal lines across the profile view.
- There is a way to work around this problem by breaking the alignment into two separate alignments and then creating a matching pair of left and right profile view styles.
- The left profile view does not display the right side vertical grid annotation and the right profile view does not display the left side vertical grid annotation.
- To match them together, snap the profile view on the right to the end of the profile view on the left thus producing a seamless view on one single profile.
- The following named profile views have been placed in the company template at S:/ACAD/Civil3D Template/Civil 3D template.dwt
- Full Utility Grid Left
- Full Utility Grid Right
- They have been applied to Waterline C profile at S:/ACAD/10780/dwg/10780-WATERLINE PROFILES.dwg
- To make left and right copies of other named profile view styles,
- simply make a copy
- and rename it
- turn off the appropriate layers under Display.
Split profile view for multi sheet display
- When you create a profile view, you usually accept the defaults for the first try
- For a profile longer than 1500 feet, it requires more than one sheet at 50 scale
- To split the profile view using all the same display settings and styles:
- After you have added pipe networks and surfaces, you can make copies of the entire profile view
- click on the profile view
- right click
- select copy
- pick base point
- right click
- select paste
- select paste point
- Then change the station display settings of the second profile view
- Right click on the copy
- Select 'Profile View Properties'
- Under 'Stations'
- Select 'User Specified Range'
- Type in beginning and ending stations (25+00-40+00)
- If you perform this splitting at the end of all your adjustments, the profile view will bring in all the alignments, profiles, and pipe networks as in the original. No need to specify them again.
