Autodesk Civil 3D Tips and Techniques
Revision Notes and Seal image are able to be managed through the Revisions.dwg as an x-reference in each sheet dwg. Notes and seals are located at coordinates near 0,0, (far away from any project.) Autodesk provides a way to place a named view directly onto a sheet, but currently it crashes the software and is unusable, so the named views in REVISIONS.dwg are unusable as a way to place the correct seal and revision block into the sheet. An effective workaround follows:
- In Model Space/ World UCS
- X-ref REVISIONS.dwg and zoom to 0,0
- Zoom to the specific seal image you need for this sheet
- From the top menu navigate View>Named Views
- In the Named Views dialog box, select New
- Type in the name at the top
- Click Define Window
- Snap the cursor at opposite corners of the border around the seal
- Select OK
- Repeat steps 4-7 for the appropriate revisions notes block
- In Paper space sheet create a rectangular viewport from Viewport toolbar
- Snap opposite corners in the seal area
- Double click inside that viewport to enter model space
- From the top menu navigate View>Named Views
- Select your named view for the Seal
- Click "Set Current"
- Return to paper space
- Lock the View and send it back
- Repeat steps 11-18 for the revisions viewport
To move a viewport view exactly between before and after (model space) coordinates
- Draw a diagonal line on opposite corners of the viewport
- Change space of that diagonal line
- move the diagonal line to the new coordinates
- create named view using end points of the diagonal line for window
- return to paper space
- unlock view
- double click inside model space through viewport
- From Top Menu View>Named Views>Select the named view
- Click on set current
- Return to paper space
- Lock view
