Autodesk Civil 3D Tips and Techniques

Revision Notes and Seal image are able to be managed through the Revisions.dwg as an x-reference in each sheet dwg.  Notes and seals are located at coordinates near 0,0, (far away from any project.)  Autodesk provides a way to place a named view directly onto a sheet, but currently it crashes the software and is unusable, so the named views in REVISIONS.dwg are unusable as a way to place the correct seal and revision block into the sheet.  An effective workaround follows:
  1. In Model Space/ World UCS
  2. X-ref REVISIONS.dwg and zoom to 0,0
  3. Zoom to the specific seal image you need for this sheet
  4. From the top menu navigate View>Named Views
  5. In the Named Views dialog box, select New
  6. Type in the name at the top
  7. Click Define Window
  8. Snap the cursor at opposite corners of the border around the seal
  9. Select OK
  10. Repeat steps 4-7 for the appropriate revisions notes block
  11. In Paper space sheet create a rectangular viewport from Viewport toolbar
  12. Snap opposite corners in the seal area
  13. Double click inside that viewport to enter model space
  14. From the top menu navigate View>Named Views
  15. Select your named view for the Seal
  16. Click "Set Current"
  17. Return to paper space
  18. Lock the View and send it back
  19. Repeat steps 11-18 for the revisions viewport

To move a viewport view exactly between before and after (model space) coordinates

  1. Draw a diagonal line on opposite corners of the viewport
  2. Change space of that diagonal line
  3. move the diagonal line to the new coordinates
  4. create named view using end points of the diagonal line for window
  5. return to paper space
  6. unlock view
  7. double click inside model space through viewport
  8. From Top Menu View>Named Views>Select the named view
  9. Click on set current
  10. Return to paper space
  11. Lock view
